Science & Benefits of Flotein Protein
Flotein Health Claims & Regulations
At Flotein we take UK & EU regulations on nutrition and health claims seriously. Our Mushroom Protein Drink is formulated to be both effective and compliant, and we work with our manufacturer and external advisors to ensure that any claims we make are backed by the Great Britain Nutrition and Health Claims (NHC) Register and related EU legislation.
The world of functional ingredients (especially mushrooms and adaptogens) is moving fast, and legislation doesn’t always keep up. That means:
- Some of the benefits our customers are most excited about can’t legally be described as health claims yet.
- For other nutrients in Flotein, there are clear authorised claims we’re allowed to make – and we’ve listed those below.
If you ever have questions about what we can and can’t say, you’re always welcome to reach out to us.

On-hold botanical claims 🚦 (Rhodiola)
Under current UK/EU rules, many botanical health claims are “on hold” pending full evaluation by EFSA. They appear on the EU/GB registers but are not classed as authorised health claims.
Flotein contains Rhodiola rosea root extract. The following claims are associated with rhodiola in the on-hold list and are provided for information only; they must not be interpreted as approved health claims for Flotein:
- Supports the nervous system
- Supports physical performance
- Supports cognitive and mental performance
Because these claims are on-hold, we’re careful not to present them as guaranteed effects of the product – but we include them here so you can see how the ingredient is currently described in the regulatory process.
Mushroom ingredients & claims we can’t make (yet) 🍄
Flotein includes Lion’s Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) extract from the fruiting body.
At the moment, there are no authorised or on-hold health claims in the GB NHC register for Lion’s Mane mushroom. That means we are not allowed to describe specific health effects (for example around focus, mood or cognition) in our marketing, even though there is a growing body of research and a lot of interest in this area.
So, to stay compliant:
- We do not make direct health claims about Lion’s Mane.
- We do clearly list it on our ingredient and nutrition information so you can see exactly what you’re getting.
- If you’re curious, we encourage you to explore independent, peer-reviewed research and reputable nutrition resources to learn more about Lion’s Mane in general.
Safety, allergens & usage
- Flotein is a food supplement and should be used alongside, not instead of, a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose (one 30 g serving).
- Not recommended for children, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of young children.
Allergen information
- The recipe contains none of the 14 major allergens required to be declared under EU law (including gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, eggs, celery, mustard, sesame, lupin and sulphites).
- However, it is produced in a facility that also processes milk, soya, mustard and fish (marine collagen), so may contain traces.
